Recently, Broadcom has reportedly taken a new measure to aggressively promote its subscription-based services: sending “cease-and-desist” letters to holders of perpetual VMware licenses with expired support contracts. These letters warn that continuing to install updates or patches without signing a new contract constitutes infringement, requiring immediate cessation of use and uninstallation of related content.
Escalating the situation further, the letters also state that VMware reserves the right to audit customers who fail to meet reporting obligations and pursue contractual or legal action.
Gartner’s Global Server Virtualization Market Guide notes that the server virtualization market is undergoing its most significant disruption in over a decade.
This assessment stems from Broadcom’s acquisition of VMware, which shifted the product sales model—discontinuing perpetual licenses in favor of subscriptions, increasing enterprise operational expenditure (OPEX). Additionally, standalone products have been consolidated into four subscription bundles, further driving up user costs.
According to CRN, Toshiba, a 16-year VMware user, decided to seek alternatives after discovering that product costs had skyrocketed to 10 times their original amount. The company is now migrating 2,200 virtual machines from the VMware-Broadcom platform to other platforms.
A co-founder of a European cloud infrastructure provider stated, “Broadcom has made it clear that small and medium-sized enterprises no longer align with its strategic direction. We are actively advising clients to consider alternative solutions.”
Currently, users across more than ten industries, including finance, healthcare, education, manufacturing, transportation, and media in multiple countries and regions, are seeking new products to replace VMware.
Gartner predicts that by 2028, cost concerns will drive 70% of enterprise VMware customers to migrate 50% of their virtual workloads.
For enterprises aiming to maintain business continuity, reduce costs, and mitigate risks, ZStack has emerged as a highly attractive option, with over 600 successful cases of replacing VMware.
We previously introduced ZStack’s three solutions for replacing VMware. This article will focus on ZStack’s VMware integration and migration service solutions.
ZStack provides powerful integration and migration tools and services designed to enable seamless migration from VMware without impacting business operations. These solutions prioritize user-friendliness, efficiency, and flexibility, empowering enterprises to confidently transfer workloads.
ZStack’s product includes a built-in virtualization integration module, supporting the management of existing virtualization resources, ideal for gradual cloud migration.
Improved Management Efficiency:Unified management of multiple environments.
Optimized User Experience:Simplified and user-friendly resource management.
Expanded Network Functionality:Enhanced SDN/NFV capabilities.
Extended Management Capabilities:Support for tenants and billing functions.
Enhanced Operational Methods:Synchronized alerts and large-screen displays.
The V2V migration service offers both online and offline migration options, supporting integration followed by V2V migration or direct V2V migration. The migration process is a one-click, batch V2V operation, monitored and managed through an intuitive, visualized UI interface from VMware to ZStack. Its key features include:
One-Click Batch Migration:The V2V tool supports simultaneous migration of multiple virtual machines, accelerating the process and saving time.
Online and Offline Options:Enterprises can choose online migration to keep virtual machines running during the process or offline migration to minimize resource usage.
Visualized Monitoring Interface:A clear interface displays migration progress in real-time, helping IT teams track each step and resolve issues quickly.
By automating most of the migration process, the V2V tool reduces manual operations, lowers error rates, and ensures a smooth transition.
For enterprises prioritizing minimal disruption, ZStack’s agentless migration solution is an ideal choice. This method leverages VMware’s Virtual Appliance Data Protection (VADP) interface to replicate virtual machines without installing software on the source system. Its advantages include:
No Business Interruption:The agentless approach ensures seamless operations without requiring additional software in the VMware environment.
Strong Compatibility:Through the VADP interface, ZStack is compatible with various VMware configurations, suitable for diverse enterprise environments.
Reliable Data Replication:The solution securely and quickly transfers virtual machine data, ensuring accuracy throughout the process.
This agentless option is particularly suitable for enterprises with stringent uptime requirements, allowing migration without impacting critical operations.
ZStack provides robust solutions for enterprises looking to migrate virtualized workloads, ensuring stable operations and reduced risks. With advanced migration tools, proven success cases, and professional support, ZStack enables enterprises to smoothly transition from VMware to a modern, scalable, and cost-effective virtualization platform.
